Croatia – General Information
The Republic of Croatia is a country that’s located where Central and Southwest Europe meet. It borders Slovenia, Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and Montenegro, with ample coastline along the Adriatic Sea. It also shares a maritime border with Italy. Croatia is the newest member of the Schengen Agreement, becoming part of the zone on January 1, 2023. Croatia became a member of the European Union in 2013.
Croatia is known for its beautiful national parks, medieval structures and ruins, and surprisingly affordable accommodations and attractions. All of this has led to the country becoming a popular tourist destination over the past decade.
Croatia’s capital and largest city is Zagreb. Other larger cities include Rijeka, Split, and Osijek. Croatia has a moderate climate, with temperatures rarely eclipsing a mean of 18°C (64°F) in July. Snow can occur at higher elevations in winter, but the weather is more typical of a Mediterranean climate near the Adriatic Sea.
Unlike most of Europe, Croatia remained relatively uninvolved in the Second World War. As a result, it did not require rebuilding at the war’s end, and thus retains much of its classic architecture and rich visual history.
Croatian Visa Travel Insurance
Do I Need Croatia Travel Insurance?
Croatia is part of the Schengen area as of January 1, 2023. Therefore, anyone who needs a Croatian visa (Schengen Visa) to visit the country must also show proof of travel insurance meeting minimum Schengen visa insurance requirements. Though you likely have domestic heath insurance, it probably does not provide coverage in Croatia, nor does it offer coverage for emergency medical evacuation or repatriation of remains, and thus will not be accepted as Schengen visa insurance. When you apply for a Schengen visa, you will be required to present proof of compliant insurance coverage with a confirmation of coverage/visa letter.
Luckily, we offer a wide variety of compliant Schengen visa insurance plans. Just click the link to get instant quotes from various companies, all meeting Schengen visa insurance requirements. You can compare different plans side-by-side to determine the best coverage for you, and purchase instantly online.
Depending upon the plan you purchase, you can either download the visa/coverage letter directly from this website, or print it from the email confirmation you receive. You would present this letter along with your other Schengen visa application documents at the Croatian consulate or embassy when applying for the Schengen visa.
Being as Croatia is now a Schengen country, you no longer are required to get a separate visa if you plan to visit another country or countries in the Schengen area during your trip. You can use the same visa for all Schengen nations. For instance, if you wanted to visit Croatia, but also spend some time in Italy or Slovenia, (or take a flight to France or Germany during your trip), no additional visa would be required.
A Schengen visa with compliant Schengen visa insurance allows you enjoy all 29 Schengen nations with maximum peace of mind.
